Recommended Travel Essentials for Aupairs - 99aupairs

October 19, 2023

Did you know that flights in Australia often have a luggage limit of 20kg? Thus, we at 99aupairs highly encourage you to avoid over-packing and only bring enough travel essentials on your trip. We’ve compiled a couple of Aupair travel essentials that you will surely find useful on your travels.

Hand Luggage Essentials:

  • Passport and your Visa

  • Tickets

  • Pocket money that’s enough for the initial weeks

  • Driver’s license – only if you have one. Please note, driving rules in Australia may be different from the rules in your home country. You might also need to get a new driver’s license in Australia if needed. Ask your Host Family to help verify for you.

  • Credit Card

  • Insurance details – Only if you have insurance. You may need to apply for new insurance in Australia. Check with your Host Family if you’re planning to do so.

  • Host Family contact details and address

  • Phone, Laptop, Camera, Power Bank or any other gadget you want to carry

  • Sunglasses

  • Medication – please don’t forget to let your Host Family know if you have any kind of medical condition that needs special attention.

Clothes

In some parts of Australia, it can get quite cool around the months of July and August. Since not all homes have central heating, you may want to place a coat and some jumpers in your luggage to keep you comfortable when you arrive. Always check the weather they say!

During the summer season, it would be perfect if you could bring a pair of flip-flops and a bathing suit with you so you can enjoy the beach and soak in the sun.

The rest of the clothes you can bring are pretty practical such as:

  • T-shirts

  • Jeans

  • Shorts

  • Underwear

  • Easy shoes

  • Smart shoes

  • Party clothes, because who doesn’t want to have some fun!?

  • Formal clothes for formal occasions or when going to the Church

  • A cute hat perfect for summer

  • Sportswear if you’re into physical fitness

Toiletries, beauty essentials, and other handy items

  • Soap

  • Shampoo with conditioner

  • Moisturizing cream

  • Tampons

  • Sunscreen lotion

  • Deodorant

  • Contraception

  • Makeup kit

  • Adapter

  • A journal – this will help prevent homesickness. Check out our blog Helpful Tips For Aupairs To Overcome Homesickness.

  • Photos of you and your family
