The increasing childcare fees in Australia are a huge problem every working Australian parent already faces. Last week it was a topic for A Current Affair on Channel 9. The report talks about Australian mums questioning whether it’s even worth returning to work as they face expensive childcare, devouring a huge portion of their salary.
Mums had to give up working full-time, embracing part-time jobs instead because they’re not really getting anything from their hard earned money anymore when working beyond 2-3 days. If paying for expensive childcare, income tax, and the withdrawal of benefits takes away a huge portion of their income, regardless of how much they earn from working full-time, they will always end up with almost nothing.

The child care subsidy which was put into place in 2018 led to a lot of families with higher out-of-pocket expenses while childcare centres increased their rates in line with the subsidies hurting all families including lower-income families. Shadow Education Minister Amanda Rishworth, on the other hand, said that families with a combined income of $69,000 or below would get free childcare. In other news what everyone is hopeful of is the creation of an improved childcare system by the Coalition with a commitment of $75 million to a skills program to help women get back into the workforce, according to Education Minister Simon Birmingham.
