What your day actually looks like.

Every family is different, but most days look something like this. Around 25 to 35 hours a week, agreed before you start.

7am to 9am

School run, breakfast, tidy the kitchen, pack lunch boxes.

Late morning

Your time. Beach, gym, study, brunch with friends, a nap. Kids are at school or daycare.

3pm to 5pm

School pickup, snack, homework help, park or activities.

5pm to 7pm

Dinner with the family, kids’ bath, bedtime stories.

Evenings

Yours, every night. One or two evenings of babysitting a week if agreed in advance.

Weekends

Is it complicated to apply through an agency like 99aupairs?

Not at all. The process has several steps, but our team guides you through every one, before your placement and during it, so you’re never left guessing. You’ll always have someone to turn to and support you throughout your placement. And it’s all free of charge for you as the aupair.

Is this really free?

Yes. Host families pay our fee. You never pay us a cent. The only costs you cover yourself are your flights and travel, your visa, your insurance, your police check, and your Working With Children Check if you don’t already have one.

How much pocket money do I receive?

$250 to $500 per week, depending on hours. This is weekly pocket money, not a salary, because aupair is a cultural exchange, not employment.

How many hours?

Typically 25 to 35 hours a week. Your full package includes accommodation, meals, car or car access, insurance, petrol, plus $250 to $500 weekly pocket money ($1,000 to $2,000 a month).

How long is a placement?

6 months minimum, open to longer for the right match.

Time off?

Minimum 1.5 days off every week, plus one full weekend off every month. Anything beyond that varies family to family and is agreed before your placement.

Who does not qualify?

Anyone who is not eligible for a 417 or 462 Working Holiday Visa, or who does not already have working rights in Australia. We do not offer visa sponsorship.

Do I need childcare experience?

Yes, but it does not have to be formal. Babysitting, coaching, tutoring, or being the oldest of five and helping at home all count.

What if the family is not the right fit?

We step in, mediate, and re-match you if needed. No cost to you.

Will aupair work count toward my second year visa?

No. Aupair hours do not count toward the 88 day requirement, so this is a cultural exchange and adventure, not a visa pathway. If second year visa is your main goal, regional farm or hospitality work is what you need.

Where will I be placed?

We have host families all over Australia. The best matches usually come from meeting a few families on Zoom and choosing the one whose lifestyle, vibe, and values fit you best. Location is a great starting point, but it should never be the deciding factor.
